It’s that time of year again. The weather is changing, the leaves are falling, and the giant spiders are invading the flat!
When I first moved into my flat a year and a half ago I thought I would be generally fine. Although I live very close to a wooded area, my flat is on the third floor so surely the monsters would go for the lower, easier targets below me. I. was. wrong. So very wrong.
I live on my own so there is a lot of things that are unpleasant that I have to deal with by myself. I have lived away from my parents for years but generally lived with friends who were fine with spiders. Now, I am okay with spiders if they are trapped or little. I even have a pet called Freddy Longlegs who lives in the corner of my bedroom window and eats the wasps that invade during the summer.
Let me paint a picture of the creatures that turned up this time last year in the flat. They are the fat bodied, long fat legged and olympic runner quick. They were my worst nightmare, and each night I would find another new one at the foot of my bed or hiding by the bathroom door ready to bite my leg off (that may be a bit of an exaggeration). I was constantly using the hoover at midnight to ‘dispose’ of the monsters (sorry neighbours!).
This year I am prepared. I have purchased window nets for all the windows in my flat. There is sticky velcro which attaches to the window frame. You then attach the nets to the velcro which leaves no gaps for big spiders to invade. In theory. It has taken me a whole day to do all of the windows. I will let you know the outcome, please have your fingers crossed.
What have you been up to recently?
